Q + A

Have hotels been reserved for out of town guests?

Yes! Please see the travel page for more details. Please keep in mind, the wedding is on a holiday weekend. We encourage you to reserve your rooms as soon as possible.

Do we need to rent cars?

We highly recommend you use Uber or Lyft to get around town if you plan to explore. You will also find there’s a bunch of things to do along the KC Streetcar that’s free to ride.

There is no gift registry on your website. What can we give you?

Your attendance at our wedding is our gift. We request no other presents be provided.

I want to book a room through AirBnB. Are there any areas we should avoid?

You are more than welcome to bounce any locations off of us before you book to ensure you’re in a safe area. There are lots of great neighborhoods across the city and sections of downtown but we’d like to ensure you make a safe choice.

Can you recommend any restaurants?

Yes and some of our favorite restaurants are conveniently located along the streetcar! If you plan to dine at any of these, you will more than likely need reservations. The following chefs either won or were nominated for James Beard Awards. • The Town Company- modern renditions of local culinary traditions. Both Chef & Pastry Chef are from the Momofuku & Milk Bar heritages. • Farina- upscale Italian • Extra Virgin- tapas restaurant • The Campground- aperitivo cocktail bar and restaurant with "an influence of hunted, fished and foraged ingredients". • Chewology- Contemporary Taiwanese street food. • Waldo Thai- Northern Thai cuisine. • Fox & Pearl- Midwestern bistro, mix of small plates and entrees. • Regazza - comfort Italian. Not James Beard recognized yet but darn good!

What’s the best BBQ in KC?

If you ask 5 people, you will get 5 different answers! The truth is each of them is great at one thing and good at the others. So the questions should be who has the best…? - Brisket - Arthur Bryant’s -Ribs- Joe’s - Burnt Ends (a KC specialty)- LC’s - Sides - Jack Stack - Nick’s Favorite - Beef on Bun on Bread at Bryant’s - Kate’s Favorite- Two meat combo w/Pulled Pork & Turkey at Jack Stack or ribs at Joe’s. A word of advice, know your order before entering Arthur Bryant’s or Gates. They will start calling for your order well before you reach the counter and have no patience for people that don’t know what they want!

How do we get from the hotel to the wedding venue?

We have hired transportation that will pick you up and return you to your hotel. Pick up and drop off details to be provided to you in your hotel welcome bag.

Which airport do I fly into?

Look for flights into MCI. This is Kansas City’s brand new airport.

What is a “creative semi-formal” dress code?

Creative semi-formal is best described as attire with a semi-formal foundation with room for some creativity and flair. It maintains formality but allows for the use of textures, colors, and accessories to personalize your look. The Bride requests minimal use of patterns or the color black in guests' attire. Examples of Creative Semi-Formal looks are below.

Where can I go for coffee or breakfast?

• For an iconic KC experience, check out one of two Town Topics along the streetcar. Opened in 1937 as an authentic American diner, it’s as good today as it they say it was back then. Too bad the burgers are no longer 5 cents! • Ibis/Messenger on Grand- one of our faves for breakfast. All the usuals of a great coffee house plus they serve a small brunch menu and delicious pastries (I hear a kouign amann calling my name now!) • Opera House Cafe- good for coffees and fresh juices. You won’t be blown away by the breakfast but it’s not bad. • Mildred's- two locations along the streetcar. Claims to have the “ultimate breakfast sandwich in the area.” • Banksia- multicultural Australian influence on the classic European cafe.

Any bars you recommend?

There’s a handful of great places in the Crossroads along the streetcar. • King G- one of our faves! “A modern take on a classic neighborhood bar & deli.” • Jim’s Alley Bar- owned by the King G peeps but has a VFW feel. • Brewery Imperial - Outdoor taproom for beer and upscale flair. A fave hangout when it isn’t too hot. • Tom’s Town- another fave of Kate’s. If time permits, sign up for the distillery tour and learn about how KC thrived during prohibition. • Green Lady Lounge- Old-school jazz club with nightly shows. • Up/Down KC- an arcade bar. Play some skee-ball and enjoy some beers. • Swordfish Tom’s - an underground speakeasy. Terrific Gin and Tonic menu. • The Lobby Bar at Hotel KC- where we got engaged. A “refined libation experience where sophistication meets warmth.” • Voo Lounge- classic cocktails in a prohibition-era aesthetic.

Where can I buy KC or Chiefs gear?

A great place to start for KC gifts or creative Chiefs gear is at any Made in KC store (although the one in the Plaza, which you can now take the streetcar too, is my fave location). The best variety of official Chiefs gear though will be at Rally House. They also have a large selection of Royals, Sporting KC, and KC Current gear there. To get there, take the streetcar to the Power & Light stop and walk east a block or two. Two other options for less traditional gear are Made Mobb and Raygun. Both are in walking distance to the west from the Crossroads Streetcar stop.
